Why pebbles?

A pebble is a complicated-simple thing.

It is smooth, self-contained, cool, calming and is perfect in its simplicity.

It is one of the oldest playthings that exists. These photos are what happened when I gave a handful of my favourite pebbles (yes I have favourite pebbles doesn’t everyone?!) to my friend’s seven year old, naturally she started moving the around, making a face, making a flower, holding them in her hands, feeling the weight, the textures, the temperatures, all the while focused and grounding.

Holding a pebble can be calming and grounding.

Only through years of movement in water and sand can it become its perfect self. Shaped over time by the movement of water and weather; always changing and becoming. Like a person, like Pebble Play, this is just the beginning. Pebble Play has been a dream of mine for sixteen years.

A pebble is one of nature’s smallest, humblest elements but it can be used to reflect the deepest human truths and stories.

A pebble can represent the power of consistency, stability and permanence. The kind of change we at Pebble Play are committed to make, to children, families and professionals.
